Slices of Hope: A Pizza Extravaganza for Mental Health

In a world where pizza and coffee are two of the absolute best comfort foods, a recent collaboration between Babushka and Babadoh was nothing short of extraordinary. We came together to host a pizza event in our beautiful coastal town of Portrush, Northern Ireland that not only satisfied our cravings but also touched our hearts, while raising funds for a vital cause.

The idea for the event was born out of a shared desire to support mental health awareness and provide resources for individuals facing mental health challenges in the area. Babushka, known for its cosy ambiance and rich brews, is always looking for ways to give back to the community. Meanwhile, we have a passion for delicious pizza so together, we saw an opportunity to create a memorable event that would bring joy to our friends while making a positive impact on others.

We decided to keep things simple, offering a selection of classic and creative pizza options with a cool menu designed by Greg Wallace, whilst using some amazing cheese from a great local delicatessen, Maegden.

On the evening of the event, the smell of freshly baked pizza and the rich scent of coffee and craft beers filled the seaside air, creating the most fabulous atmosphere. Friends were excited, knowing that every slice served would contribute to a significant cause. A highlight was the Detroit pizza served at the beginning of the evening, which ended with the most delicious tiramisu. Yes, we rolled out of there!

Raising the Dough

We are over the moon to announce that by the time the evening had wrapped up, we’d raised over £450 for Solas Wellbeing, a mental health charity based in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland providing a wide range of support, including talking therapies and skills-based activities in groups and one-to-one settings. Many patrons have since generously donated beyond the evening which has really warmed our hearts. If you’re interested in donating, visit the Solas Wellbeing site.

This pizza party may have been a laid-back affair, but the success of it serves as a reminder that even simple acts of kindness, such as sharing a pizza, can have a profound impact on people's lives. We are super grateful to George and all the Babushka crew for allowing us the use of their beautiful beachside café. If you ever visit the North Antrim Coast, you must check it out.

We hope this event inspires others to initiate similar endeavours and continue to raise awareness for important causes. Together, we're creating a world where everyone's mental health is a priority, and that's pretty darn amazing.
